Within Surrey we have Trainee Sign Language Interpreters. Trainees are undertaking training or a development plan, supervised or mentored by an appropriately qualified or experienced Registered Sign Language Interpreter. They have sufficient interpreter training or experience to be aware of appropriate areas of work. Trainee Interpreters are regulated by the NRCPD (click here for more information).
They are not able to accept certain complex assignments, particularly those that will have a legal impact on those involved. Trainee Sign Language Interpreters may not work in legal settings such as criminal or civil courts, police investigations mental health settings, child protection meetings or complex health assignments such as diagnosis and treatment of cancer and palliative care discussions.
